About Us

The Humane Society for Shelter Pets is an organization dedicated to fostering a broad base of support for America’s local pet shelters and humane societies. HSSP counts more than 800 shelters, rescues, and humane societies among its supporters.

Pet shelters work tirelessly to help homeless animals find homes, but unfortunately many shelters are in chronic need of additional funding. We work with local shelters and others to educate Americans about the need to support local pet shelters, as well as address the misperception that national animal charities work locally.

Just to be clear, we do not operate or directly support local pet shelters. Our goal is to make sure that you do.

Mission

The Humane Society for Shelter Pets is dedicated to supporting the nation’s local pet shelters by urging Americans to give locally. We are dedicated to creating a sustainable base of local support for the nation’s network of local pet shelters through grassroots advocacy and outreach.

Who We Are

Fundamentally, we’re animal lovers. We believe that homeless animals deserve better, and that more can be done to support pets in need. HSSP is a project of the Center for Organizational Research and Education.
