HSSP Director Didi Culp has a piece on horse care in this week’s Frederick News-Post:

In the September Issue of Equus magazine, veterinary findings were compared with horse owner reports. Some discrepancies, and not in a positive direction, were evident.

In the survey involving almost 1,000 horses, here is how it breaks down.

Veterinarians examined horses and found hoof abnormalities in 160 of them. Only 41 of those horse owners knew their horses had any problems with their feet. Of 188 horses found to have problems with their eyes, only six owners reported suspecting anything.
