Jeff Douglas is a communications professional who has devoted most of his career to helping the profession of veterinary medicine grow and prosper.
A native of upstate New York and 40-year Virginia resident, Jeff is a life-long animal lover who has always had pets.
He spent more than 25 years working with the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he collaborated on several institutional advancement initiatives with the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC). He has also worked extensively with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), and other leading veterinary medical organizations.
In the late 1990’s, Douglas organized the national community of communication professionals working in veterinary medicine to form the Association of Veterinary Advancement Professionals (AVAP).
Most recently, Jeff spent two years serving as Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and executive director of university relations for Virginia’s Radford University, where he oversaw all matters related to internal and external public relations.
Douglas has spoken frequently at professional society and continuing education meetings and organized a number of conferences and symposia. Douglas helped form the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 1992, served as the chapter president in 1996, and has worked with PRSA in a variety of capacities at the national level. He has taught a dozen undergraduate communication courses at both Radford University and Virginia Tech.
Douglas holds B.S. in journalism and M.S. in Corporate and Professional Communication from Radford University. He earned his professional “APR” accreditation from the Public Relations Society of America in 1994. In 2004, he was inducted into PRSA’s distinguished College of Fellows.
